The result of the pursuit of happiness is unpredictable. We may succeed, but also we may not. However, this irresistible impulse – to be happy – is built in our very being. We exist, so we want to be happy.
The result of the pursuit of wisdom is predictable. If we go for it, we will surely succeed. And, inevitably, as a consequence of finding wisdom, we will be happy.
It is a puzzle how people manage not to see this connection between wisdom and happiness. Instead of a safe and steady path leading to both, they go chasing something elusive and superficial and usually end up finding nothing.
